Native Boutique in Hollywood, California

SSWC reader Chris Parkinson from California sent us these photos of "Native Boutique": A store in Hollywood that features various types of women's clothing, including a "crack rack" which has this-and-that type items that they are trying to move to a lower price. Rare Hook-Legged Spider Discovered in Oregon Cave

Trogloraptor marchingtoni, a.k.a. Hook-Legged Spider

Scientists recently discovered a rare "hook-legged" spider in the caves of southern Oregon. This species is apparently so rare that it even has a taxonomic genus and family to itself: Trogloraptor marchingtoni. According to the Neatorama website where I first came across this not-so-little cutie (their leg span measures up to 3" in diameter), the spider is named after Neil Marchington (a member of the Western Cave Conservancy who first discovered it)... and Trogloraptor means "cave robber".

According to Neatorama, researchers believe that the spiders have evolved to have hooks - or claws (as can be seen in the above photo) - on their legs, in order to catch flying insects for supper. 

All hail evolution in its infinite, bumbling wisdom. :-D

What are we going to wear...??

Spider web and Red & black lace corset dresses

...to that New Year's Eve party? (I'm looking at you, misspulga...) Problem solved!!! I came across these fabulous dresses in Glamtastik's shop on Etsy. She makes fancy corset dresses for all occasions. Anyway, I'd like to celebrate my 605th New Year in style. That's right, I'm 604 years old, and I can rock a corset dress!

misspulga's June Visitor

Francis: arachnid with egg sac.

Misspulga had a visitor drop by her apartment this past June. The very rotund-looking spider, Francis, showed up one day and Misspulga decided to keep it under glass as an interesting specimen to show Vampire next time the two met up. Time passed, and Francis ended up giving birth to a lovely egg sac! Upon meeting, Vampire and Misspulga, thinking arachnids are incredibly fascinating, took some pictures before the glass containing Francis and the egg sac was placed outside in some tall grass. Shortly after being released, Francis and the egg sac were attacked by an army of ants. Definitely not a Hollywood ending.
